Two ex-Mets in Marlins pen
Jon Rauch appeared in 73 games for the Mets last season, throwing 57.2 innings, giving up 23 earned runs on 45 hits and 12 walks. He finished his lone Mets season with a record of 3-7 and ERA of 3.59 and a WHIP of 0.98. He signed a one-year deal with the Marlins in the off season.
John Maine a favorite of mine had early success in his Mets career, going 21-15 with a 3.81 ERA in his first 47 Mets starts from 06-07. Unfortunately 08-10 were injury plagued seasons for Maine and the Mets. Maine went 18-18 with a 4.88 ERA. Maine career Mets numbers ended being 39-32 with a 4.17 ERA before being non-tendered after the 2010 season. Maine spent an injury riddled year for Colorado in Triple-A in 2010 and began to have some success with the Yankees Triple-A affiliate last year. Maine signed a minor league deal with the Marlins in the off season and made the team out of spring training.

This certainly appears like it has the makings of a long term injury. Expect a combination of Aaron Laffey and Collin McHugh in the fifth starters role until either A) Marcum is healthy or B) Zack Wheeler is deemed major league ready. Right now neither looks like it is going to happen until late May at the earliest.

Ex-Met Mike Pelfrey wins Twins debut
Less than a year removed from Tommy John surgery ex-Met Mike Pelfrey picks up his first win of his 2013 season in his Twins debut. Pelfrey picked the win going 5.1 innings giving up 0 (2) earned runs, on 5 hits and 2 walks and striking out 1.
Good for Mike Pelfrey. True he every amounted to quite to what Mets fans expected of him. But he was a very solid pitcher for a period of four years. 2008-11 he made at least 31 starts and threw at least 180 innings. Pelfrey was off to a good start to his 2012 campaign before requiring Toomy John surgery thus ending his season and his Mets career.
Pelfrey perhaps was just not a New York kind of guy. Perhaps the laid back small markey of Minnesota is what Pelfrey needs to just focus on pitching and being happy. Good luck to Pelfrey on the rest of his major league travels.
Zack Wheeler last only 3.1 Innings in Triple-A season opener
Zack Wheeler was very wild tonight in his Triple-A season opener. Manager Wally Backman pulled him after 3.1 Innings. Wheeler gave up 2 Earned runs, on 3 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 3 and throwing 86 pitches. Gonzalez Germen pitches in relief as 51s lead 4-2.
